Achieve precise, backlash-free gear reductions in tight spaces with this compact 200mm closed-loop GT2 timing belt. Features a 6mm width, durable neoprene rubber construction with a stretch-resistant fiberglass core, and a standard 2mm pitch.
Compact Gear Reduction While long belts are used to move carriages across a machine, short belts like this 200mm loop are utilized to transfer high torque over short distances. By placing a small 20-tooth pulley on a stepper motor and a large 60-tooth pulley on a secondary shaft just a few inches away, this 200mm belt links them together to create a powerful 3:1 mechanical gear reduction. This is highly utilized in modern 3D printer extruders to push stiff filament through a hotend with immense force.
The GT2 "Anti-Backlash" Advantage Precision in short, rapid movements is absolutely critical. The GT2 (Gates Tooth 2mm) profile features rounded teeth that perfectly conform to the grooves of a GT2 pulley without leaving any air gaps. Unlike older square-tooth T2.5 belts that suffer from "slop" when reversing direction, the GT2 profile engages smoothly and securely. This eliminates "backlash," ensuring that when your motor twitches back and forth during rapid 3D printer retractions, the secondary shaft responds instantly.
Stretch-Resistant Core Technology Under high torque, standard rubber would stretch like a rubber band, ruining your mechanical calibration. To prevent this, the durable black neoprene rubber is extruded over a multi-strand fiberglass or Kevlar core. These internal, high-tensile cords are virtually unstretchable. This guarantees that even when under heavy tension between two tightly pulled pulleys, the belt maintains its exact 200mm length and perfect 2mm tooth pitch indefinitely.

3D Printer Extruders: Acting as the primary power transmission belt for compact, geared filament extruders (like the Voron Stealthburner or custom direct-drive setups).
RC Drivetrains: Transferring high-RPM power from a brushless motor down to the main drive shaft of a 1/16th scale remote-controlled car.
Automated Camera Lenses: Wrapping around a DSLR camera lens and linking to a stepper motor for automated, vibration-free follow-focus pulls.
Unlock New Capabilities (Project Evolution)
The Cinematic Motorized Follow-Focus: Don't touch the camera lens by hand and risk shaking your cinematic video! Evolve your videography! Wrap a large 3D-printed GT2 ring gear around the focus ring of your DSLR lens. Mount a tiny NEMA 14 stepper motor with a 20T pulley to your camera rail. Link them together perfectly with this compact 200mm closed-loop belt. Driven by an Arduino and a potentiometer knob mounted to a handle, you now have a professional, buttery-smooth electronic follow-focus rig!
Package Includes:
What does "GT2" mean? "GT2" stands for "Gates Tooth 2mm." It is a specific tooth profile with rounded edges engineered to prevent backlash (slop) when interlocking with pulleys.
What is the width of this belt? It is exactly 6mm wide, which is the industry standard for most desktop 3D printers and NEMA 17 motor pulleys.
What is the total length? The total circumference (perimeter) of this compact closed loop is 200mm.
How many teeth does it have? Given the 200mm length and the 2mm pitch (distance between teeth), the belt features exactly 100 teeth.
If I stretch it between two pulleys, how far apart will they be? Ignoring the wrap-around circumference of the pulleys themselves, the center-to-center distance between two small pulleys would be roughly 85mm to 95mm (around 3.5 inches).
Is this belt stretchy like a rubber band? No. While the outer jacket is made of neoprene rubber, it features an internal fiberglass or Kevlar core that prevents it from stretching under tension.
What does "closed-loop" mean? It signifies that the belt is manufactured as one continuous, unbroken circle directly from the factory, making it immensely strong without a weak splice point.
Can I cut this to use as an open belt? Yes, cutting it with scissors will yield a 200mm long open GT2 belt, though this length is usually too short for X/Y axis gantry movements.
Will this work with T2.5 pulleys? No. T2.5 pulleys utilize a square tooth profile and a 2.5mm pitch. You must use GT2 (2mm pitch) pulleys.
How do I tension a short closed-loop belt like this? Because the loop is so small, you typically don't use idler pulleys. Instead, you tension it by mounting the motor on slotted screw holes and physically sliding the entire motor away from the secondary shaft before tightening the bolts.
Does this belt need lubrication? Absolutely not. Timing belts run perfectly dry. Applying oils or grease will degrade the neoprene rubber and cause the teeth to slip.
Can I connect two of these belts together to make a 400mm loop? No. There is no reliable DIY method to splice two timing belts together while maintaining the exact 2mm tooth pitch and structural integrity under tension.
Is the belt directional? No. The belt is perfectly symmetrical and performs equally well rotating clockwise or counter-clockwise.
What temperature can this belt withstand? Standard fiberglass-reinforced neoprene timing belts operate safely in environments up to roughly 85°C (185°F).
How tight should I make the belt? It should be taut enough to eliminate any visible slack, but not so tight that it bows your 5mm motor shafts or grinds out your motor bearings.
Can I use this for a 3D printer extruder? Yes! 200mm and 188mm belts are incredibly popular for building custom, geared "Direct Drive" extruders to push filament.
Can I wash the belt if it gets dusty? You can wipe it down with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh chemical solvents like acetone.
What happens if I skip a tooth while installing? On a simple gear reduction, skipping a tooth during installation doesn't matter (the ratio remains the same). However, if you are synchronizing two timed shafts, it will throw their alignment off by exactly 2mm.
How long will this belt last? Under normal indoor robotics use with proper tension, a high-quality reinforced GT2 belt will easily last for thousands of hours of continuous operation.
Is there a smooth side to the belt? Yes, the inside circumference features the 100 rounded teeth, while the outside back of the belt is completely smooth.
