This STM32F411 Core board is a compact development platform featuring the Arm Cortex-M4 32-bit microcontroller. It features a variety of peripherals, including a user LED and button.
The STM32F411CEU6 Development Board is based on the high-performance Arm Cortex-M4 32-bit RISC core operating at a frequency of up to 100 MHz. The Cortex-M4 core features a floating-point unit (FPU) single precision, which supports all Arm single-precision data-processing instructions and data types. It also implements a full set of DSP instructions and a memory protection unit (MPU), which enhances application security. The STM32F411CEU6 incorporate high-speed embedded memories (up to 512 Kbytes of Flash memory, 128 Kbytes of SRAM), and an extensive range of enhanced I/Os and peripherals connected to two APB buses, two AHB buses and a 32-bit multi-AHB bus matrix.

Frequently Asked Questions (Technical FAQ)
Q1: Can I program this using the Arduino IDE?
A: Yes, by installing the STM32duino core in the Board Manager, you can program it just like an Arduino.
Q2: Does this board support MicroPython?
A: Yes, the STM32F411CEU6 is fully supported by MicroPython. You will need to flash the firmware first.
Q3: What is the difference between this (Black Pill) and the Blue Pill (F103)?
A: The Black Pill (F411) is significantly faster (100MHz vs 72MHz), has a Floating Point Unit (FPU), more Flash/SRAM, and uses a USB-C connector.
Q4: Do I need an ST-Link to program it?
A: No, you can program it via the USB-C port using DFU mode. However, an ST-Link is highly recommended for debugging.
Q5: Are the pins 5V tolerant?
A: Most digital I/O pins are 5V tolerant, but ADC pins (PA0-PA7) are strictly 3.3V. Always check the pinout diagram before connecting 5V logic.
Q6: Why is my computer not recognizing the board?
A: Ensure you are using a data-capable USB-C cable. Also, you must manually enter DFU mode (Hold Boot0, Press Reset) for the first connection.
Q7: Can I use CircuitPython on this board?
A: Yes, CircuitPython builds are available for the STM32F411 Black Pill.
Q8: What is the maximum voltage for the VIN pin?
A: The onboard LDO can handle up to 5V-9V input, but 5V is recommended to minimize heat.
Q9: Does it have built-in WiFi or Bluetooth?
A: No, this is a standalone microcontroller. You would need to interface it with an ESP8266 or HC-05 module for wireless connectivity.
Q10: How do I access the built-in Bootloader?
A: The system bootloader is stored in ROM. It is activated by pulling the BOOT0 pin High and Resetting the board.
Q11: What is the resolution of the ADC?
A: The STM32F411 features a 12-bit ADC (Analog to Digital Converter).
Q12: Can it run FreeRTOS?
A: Yes, the 128KB SRAM is sufficient to run FreeRTOS comfortably with multiple tasks.
Q13: Is the USB-C port strictly for power?
A: No, the USB-C port connects directly to the MCU's USB peripheral lines (PA11/PA12) for data and programming.
Q14: Where is the LED connected?
A: The onboard user LED is connected to pin PC13. It is active LOW (lights up when pin is set to 0).
Q15: Does it support DSP instructions?
A: Yes, the Cortex-M4 core includes a full set of DSP instructions for efficient signal processing.
Q16: What is the current consumption?
A: It varies by application, but typically around 20mA-50mA in run mode. Deep sleep modes can reduce this to micro-amps.
Q17: Does it come with headers soldered?
A: Typically no. The headers are included in the bag but require soldering, which allows you to choose between direct wiring or breadboard usage.
Q18: How much Flash memory is available for my code?
A: You have the full 512KB available, minus a small amount if you use a custom bootloader (standard DFU bootloader is in ROM).
Q19: Can I drive a TFT display with this?
A: Yes, the high SPI speeds and 100MHz clock make it very capable of driving SPI TFT displays (like ILI9341) with high frame rates.
Q20: Is this board compatible with the "Adafruit Feather" pinout?
A: No, the Black Pill has its own specific dual-row pinout and is not physically compatible with Feather wings.
