Stretching exactly 1220mm in circumference (1.22 meters), this belt is the go-to solution for modern CoreXY 3D printers (like the Voron or RatRig series). It allows you to wrap a single, continuous belt around three or four independent Z-axis leadscrews, ensuring that a single stepper motor drives the entire heavy print bed up and down in perfect, unwavering unison.
The GT2 "Anti-Backlash" Advantage Precision over long distances is critical. The GT2 (Gates Tooth 2mm) profile features rounded teeth that perfectly conform to the grooves of a GT2 pulley. Unlike older square-tooth T2.5 belts that suffer from slop when changing directions, the GT2 profile engages smoothly and securely. Because this closed-loop belt provides a massive 1220mm circumference, if you stretch it flat between two pulleys, you get roughly 600mm (nearly two feet) of straight, linear travel. Mount a NEMA 17 motor to one side of your window frame and an idler pulley to the other. Attach your curtain edge to the belt using a 3D-printed clip. Hook the motor up to an ESP32 microcontroller, and you can now command your curtains to glide open automatically at sunrise using your smartphone!

What does "GT2" mean? "GT2" stands for "Gates Tooth 2mm." It is a specific tooth profile with rounded edges engineered to prevent backlash (slop) when interlocking with pulleys.

If I stretch it between two pulleys, how far apart will they be? Ignoring the wrap-around circumference of the pulleys themselves, the center-to-center distance between two small pulleys would be just under 610mm (roughly 24 inches).
Is this belt stretchy like a rubber band? No. While the outer jacket is made of neoprene rubber, it features an internal fiberglass or Kevlar core that prevents it from stretching under tension.
What does "closed-loop" mean? It signifies that the belt is manufactured as one continuous, unbroken circle directly from the factory, making it immensely strong without a weak splice point.
Can I cut this to use as an open belt? Yes! If you snip it with sharp scissors, you instantly have a high-quality, 1.22-meter long open GT2 belt.
Will this work with T2.5 pulleys? No. T2.5 pulleys utilize a square tooth profile and a 2.5mm pitch. You must use GT2 (2mm pitch) pulleys.
How do I tension a closed-loop belt of this immense size? For large loops, you typically run the belt over a smooth idler pulley attached to a sliding block or a torsion spring. Moving the idler outward pushes against the belt, pulling the entire loop taut.
Does this belt need lubrication? Absolutely not. Timing belts run dry. Applying oils or grease will degrade the neoprene rubber and cause the teeth to slip.
Can I connect two of these belts together to make an even longer loop? No. There is no reliable DIY method to splice two timing belts together while maintaining the exact 2mm tooth pitch and structural integrity under tension.
Is the belt directional? No. The belt is perfectly symmetrical and performs equally well rotating clockwise or counter-clockwise.
What temperature can this belt withstand? Standard fiberglass-reinforced neoprene timing belts operate safely in environments up to roughly 85°C (185°F).
How tight should I make the belt? It should be taut enough to eliminate slack and produce a low "twang" when plucked, but not so tight that it bends your leadscrews or stresses your motor bearings.
Can I use this to synchronize three Z-axis leadscrews? Yes, this is exactly what 1220mm belts are commonly used for in large-format 3D printer designs (like the Voron Trident).
Can I wash the belt if it gets dirty? You can wipe it down with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh chemical solvents like acetone, which will dry out and crack the rubber.
What happens if I skip a tooth while installing a Z-sync loop? If you are synchronizing multiple leadscrews and skip a tooth, one corner of your machine's bed will sit exactly 2mm higher or lower than the others. Always square the machine mechanically before tightening the pulley set-screws.
How long will this belt last? Under normal indoor robotics use with proper tension, a high-quality reinforced GT2 belt will easily last for thousands of hours of continuous operation.
Is there a smooth side to the belt? Yes, the inside circumference features the 610 rounded teeth, while the outside back of the belt is completely smooth. Idler tensioners should press against the smooth side.
