The KP08 solves this with a spherical outer ring on the internal bearing insert. This geometry allows the inner bearing to tilt and pivot slightly inside the rigid zinc housing. If your 8mm rod is slightly bowed or mounted at a microscopic angle, the bearing automatically pivots to match the angle, maintaining perfectly smooth, frictionless rotation.
Heavy-Duty Zinc Alloy Architecture Standard plastic bearing mounts warp under the continuous stress and heat of a busy 3D printer. The KP08 housing is cast from a solid zinc alloy. This provides the immense structural rigidity of steel but at a fraction of the weight, and it is entirely immune to standard workshop rust and atmospheric corrosion. The base features two elongated 4.8mm mounting holes, offering slight lateral adjustability before you lock the block down to your aluminum extrusions.
Secure Dual-Set Screw Grip To prevent your lead screw from slipping or vibrating vertically inside the bore, the inner ring of the bearing is extended. This extended collar houses two M3 set screws (grub screws) positioned 90 degrees apart. Once your 8mm shaft is inserted, simply tighten these screws down with a hex key to lock the shaft permanently to the inner race of the bearing.

1. What is the exact inner diameter of this bearing? The inner bore is precisely machined to 8.00mm, allowing a snug, slip-fit for standard 8mm smooth rods and T8 lead screws.
2. What does "self-aligning" mean? The internal chrome steel bearing has a spherical outer shape that sits inside a matching concave track in the zinc housing. This allows the internal bearing to pivot and tilt to correct minor angular misalignments of your shaft.
3. My bearing arrived crooked inside the housing, is it broken? No, this is completely normal! Because it is self-aligning, it can shift during shipping. Simply insert an 8mm rod into the bore and use the rod as a lever to gently snap the bearing back perfectly straight.
4. What size lead screw fits this bearing? It is universally compatible with 8mm smooth cylindrical rods, T8 lead screws, and SFU1204 ball screws that have been machined down to an 8mm end.
5. How do I secure the shaft inside the bearing? There is an extended collar on the inner ring of the bearing featuring two tiny set screws (grub screws). Tighten these down against your shaft to prevent it from slipping.

15. Why is the bearing very stiff to turn out of the box? New bearings feature tight rubber dust seals and thick anti-rust packing grease. It will loosen up and spin incredibly freely after an hour or two of motor "break-in" operation.
16. Is the zinc housing rust-proof? Zinc alloy is highly resistant to standard atmospheric corrosion and oxidation, making it excellent for unheated workshops or garage environments.
17. Can I mount this upside down (suspended)? Yes, the load-bearing capacity is structurally symmetrical. You can mount it hanging from a top plate without any loss of performance.
18. What is the total length of the base? The footprint of the base measures 55mm in total length.
19. What happens if I over-tighten the set screws? If you over-tighten the tiny set screws on the collar, you can strip the delicate internal threads or damage your 8mm shaft. Tighten them firmly, but do not apply excessive brute force.
