• Can I use the AR-868 on a live network switch?
  No. You must disconnect the cable from the switch. PoE voltage (48V) will damage the emitter.
• Does this tester verify cable length?
  No, this is a wire tracker and continuity tester. It does not measure cable length (TDR function).
• Can it find a break in a wire inside a wall?
  Yes. The tone will stop or drop significantly at the point where the wire is broken.
• Why is the sound from the probe very noisy?
  You might be near AC power lines or fluorescent lights. Use the volume dial to reduce sensitivity or use the included headphones.
• Does it work with Shielded (STP) Ethernet cables?
  Yes, but the shield blocks the tone signal. You must clip the red alligator clip to the shield (drain wire) itself to trace it.
• Can I use this to trace automotive wiring?
  Yes, as long as the circuit is not powered. Disconnect the car battery first.
• What batteries does the AR-868 use?
  It requires two standard 9V (6F22) batteries—one for the transmitter and one for the receiver.
• Will this work on Cat7 cables?

  No. The probe is inductive and detects the signal through the plastic insulation.
• What does the "SCAN" button do?
  It sends a tone signal down the wire. You use the probe to find this sound at the other end.

  It runs a cycle to check pin-to-pin continuity (1 through 8) to verify crimps.
