Turbidity Sensor Module Testing Suspended Particle Value Detection Kit

Use this sensor to measure water turbidity and to estimate the water quality. Turbidity can come from suspended sediment such as silt or clay, inorganic materials, or organic matter such as algae, plankton, and decaying material. This sensor can be used to measure these particles in water. Turbidity is a property that is a result of particles of solid matter being suspended in water, rather than dissolved into it. Turbidity water testing is an important part of water quality maintenance. Increased levels of turbidity raise water temperatures because heat is absorbed by the suspended particles. Warm water holds less dissolved oxygen than cold, so increased water temperatures result in decreased levels of dissolved oxygen.

Turbidity sensors make use of the optical principle, to determine the the turbidity by using the transmittance and scattering rate of the liquid solution. Inside the sensor is an infrared pair tube. When light passes through a certain amount of water, the amount of light transmitted depends on the degree of contamination of the water. The dirtier the water, the less light is transmitted. The light-receiving end converts the transmitted light intensity into a corresponding current magnitude, and the transmitted light is large, and the current is large, and the transmitted light is small, and the current is small. The sensor measures the relative turbidity and outputs the value using two different outputs - analog and digital. The user can use the analog output whose voltage varies concerning the water turbidity between 0 and 5V. The user can also set a predetermined turbidity threshold on the module. When the measured turbidity crosses this threshold, the digital output goes high, else it remains low. The analog and digital outputs can be connected directly to an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or any other microcontroller to get the turbidity of the solution.

Precautions:

• The top of the turbidity sensor is not waterproof. It is forbidden to completely throw the turbidity sensor into the water during use. The water surface must not pass the connection between the top cover and the shell. The sensor will cause the sensor to burn out when it enters the water.
• The wavelength range of the sensor photodiode receiving light is (500~1050nm). The wavelength of daylight or daylight light line will affect the receiving of the sensor's photoresistor and affect the measurement output. Daylight or direct light will increase the sensor measurement error, and the sensor should be protected from daylight or direct sunlight.
• The sensor head housing should be kept clean to avoid measurement obstruction caused by contaminants.
