What is the WS2812B Adressable LED Chip?

If you are looking to build intresting video lights, decoriations, boards, etc this WS2812B IC will be the perfect choice. It included both a RGB LED & Serial Driver IC in a single package. Multiple LEDS can be serial daisy chained and controlled through a single IO line. This makes both connections and programming a lot easier! It also enables users to build rich and complex animations, sequencys, lights shows, etc

Where is the WS2812B Adressable LED Chip Used?

Even when multiple LEDs are used together, the brightness & color of each induvidual LED can be controlled independently. 

The WS2812B LED is used in manufacturing RGB LED Strips, PCBs, Flexible Matrix Panels, Sign Boards, etc. It comes in a standard 5050 SMD Package for easy integration in custom PCBs and soldering.

How does the WS2812B Serial LED communication work?

The WS2812B can be chained together in series by connecting the DO pin of the first LED to the DO pin of next LED. This way the signal gets trasnimitted to subsequent LEDs in the chian.

It includes and internal include intelligent digital port data latch and signal reshaping amplification drive circuit to reduce noise as higher LEDs are used together in series. Also include a precision internal oscillator and a 5V voltage programmable constant current control part, effectively ensuring the pixel point light color height consistent.

The interface and communication data transfer protocol uses single NZR communication mode. After power on, the DIN pin on the LED waits for data from controller. Once data is available, it collects the first 24bits and sends to the internal data latch. The remaining other data is sent to the next cascade LED through the DO pin. After transmission for each pixel the signal reduces by 24bits. LED/pixels adopt auto reshaping & transmit technology for signal noise reduction, so the maximum no of leds that can be connected is only limited by the speed of transmittion only!

How to use the WS2812 with Arduino, Raspberry Pi or other Controllers?

The WS1812 LED is designed to make it easy to use with Microcontrollers like Arduino, NodeMCU ESP32, & Raspberry Pi. Popular libraries like FastLED and Neopixel are available for Arduino and Raspberry pi. you can download these libraries and get started with thier example programs in no time. 

We suggest ESP32 over Arduino UNO/Mega due to the high requirements for flash, RAM and speed for driving LED chains with high number of LEDs. If you want to control just a few LEDs, then any microcontroller should be fine.

Difference between the WS2812B Black and White?

These is no difference between the two LEDS functionally. The Black LED is build around a black color body and white led around a pure white body. If you want the LED to  blend in with the background you are pasting it on, chose the closest color. For example, black LEDs are used when you want to use the light in drak rooms as they are not noticable when off, white LED are prefred to be used on white walls where they dont pop up untill powered on.

Difference between the WS2812B and WS2811?

WS2812B works on 5V and offers higher efficiency. It is the upgraded model of the WS2811. WS2812 integrates the LED internally in a small SMD 5050 package. WS2811 requires an RGB LED to be connected externally. This increases wiring and complexity. For simple, easy and convinient projects, we prefer the WS2812B LED. It offers quick develpoment and easy integration with any controller/project.
