1. What is the power rating of this module? As printed directly on the warning label, this module is rated for 15W of output power.

2. What color is the laser beam? It emits a highly intense, visible blue light at exactly 450nm.

3. Is this a standalone laser engraver? No. This is a replacement or upgrade module. You must mount it to a host machine (like a 3018 CNC gantry) and connect it to a CNC control board.

4. Do I need to wear laser safety glasses? YES, ALWAYS. This is an extremely powerful Class IV laser. Even a split-second reflection off a shiny object can cause permanent blindness. You must wear goggles specifically rated to block 450nm light.

5. Will the laser burn my table? Absolutely. A 15W laser will easily cut right through wood and immediately start burning your desk. Always place a sacrificial "spoilboard" (like scrap MDF) or a steel honeycomb mat underneath your work.

6. Can I leave the laser running unattended? No. High-power lasers carry a very real risk of starting fires, especially when cutting wood or cardboard. You must supervise the machine at all times.

7. Will this fit my 3018 Pro CNC machine? Yes, the square aluminum body is designed to drop perfectly into standard 3018 CNC spindle mounts or dedicated laser brackets.

8. What do the three pins on the connector do? The 3-pin cable provides 12V Power, Ground (GND), and the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal from your control board to the laser.

9. What voltage and current does this module require? It runs on 12V DC. Because it is a high-power 15W module, ensure your CNC power supply can provide at least 4 to 5 Amps of current. If your power supply is weak, the laser will underperform.

10. What is PWM and why is it important? PWM allows your control board to pulse the laser rapidly. This allows the software to command the laser to fire at 10%, 50%, or 100% power, enabling you to engrave shaded photographs instead of just solid black shapes.

11. Can this 15W laser cut through wood? Yes! It excels at cutting. Depending on the density of the wood and the focus, it can easily slice through 5mm plywood in a few passes.

12. Can it cut or engrave clear acrylic or glass? No. Because the laser is visible blue light (450nm), the beam will pass harmlessly straight through perfectly clear materials. You can only engrave or cut dark, opaque acrylics.

13. Can it engrave bare metal? No diode laser can effectively engrave highly reflective bare metals (like raw steel, brass, or copper). However, it easily burns away coatings on painted metals, powder-coated tumblers, or anodized aluminum (like dog tags).

14. What are the best materials to use with this laser? It works phenomenally well on plywood, solid hardwoods, genuine leather, slate stone, opaque plastics, and cardboard.

15. How do I focus the laser beam? Turn the laser on at a very low power setting (e.g., 1% via software). Then, carefully twist the knurled brass lens ring at the bottom of the module until the blue dot becomes a tiny, sharp pinprick on your material.

16. Why does the laser have a fan on top? Diode lasers generate extreme heat, especially at 15W. The cooling fan runs constantly to push air through the blue aluminum heatsink, keeping the internal diode from melting.

17. Should I run the laser at 100% power for all my jobs? No. While it can reach 100%, running any diode laser at its absolute maximum power limit for hours on end will drastically shorten its lifespan. We recommend operating at 80% to 85% power for long jobs.

18. What software do I need to control this? If hooked up to a standard GRBL control board, you can use free software like "LaserGRBL" or premium software like "LightBurn".

19. Why are my engraved lines thick, blurry, or weak? This almost always means the laser is out of focus. Every time you switch to a thicker or thinner material, you must re-adjust the Z-height of the machine or twist the brass lens to achieve a perfect pinpoint focus again.

20. Why isn't the laser firing when my CNC machine is moving? Check your software settings. Make sure your software is sending the M3 or M4 (Laser ON) command, and ensure the S-value (Speed/Power) is set appropriately high. Also, verify the 3-pin cable is firmly seated.
