High-performance 2 Megapixel OV2640 camera module featuring a 120-degree wide-angle lens and a flexible 75mm 24-pin ribbon cable for advanced IoT and ESP32-CAM projects.
Elevate your IoT vision with expansive wide-angle capabilities. The OV2640 2MP Camera Module is a staple in the maker community, renowned for its excellent balance of image quality, compression, and ease of use with low-power microcontrollers. This specific model upgrades the standard narrow lens to a 120-degree wide-angle optic, allowing your security or smart-home projects to capture significantly more horizontal and vertical area in a single frame.
Flexible Integration and Placement. Unlike standard modules that sit flush against the microcontroller board, this version features an extended 75mm flexible printed circuit (FPC) ribbon cable. This crucial addition allows you to mount the camera lens remotely from the bulky mainboard, making it infinitely easier to design sleek, unobtrusive 3D-printed enclosures for smart doorbells, dashcams, or robotic eyes. The standard 24-pin interface ensures true plug-and-play compatibility with the highly popular ESP32-CAM ecosystem.
Sensor Type: OmniVision OV2640 1/4" Color CMOS
Resolution: 2 Megapixels (UXGA 1600 x 1200)
Field of View (FOV): 120° Wide Angle
Cable Length: 75mm
Interface: 24-Pin FPC (0.5mm pitch)
Output Formats: JPEG, YUV(422/420), RGB565/555, 8-bit compressed data
Operating Voltage: 3.3V DC
IoT Security Cameras: Creating DIY smart doorbells or surveillance nodes that cover an entire porch or room thanks to the 120° lens.
Robotic Vision: Giving autonomous rovers a wider field of view for obstacle avoidance and object recognition algorithms.
Remote Monitoring: Building compact wildlife cameras or 3D-printer monitoring feeds where the lens can be separated from the main control board.
Unlock New Capabilities (Project Evolution)
Vision Upgrade: Transition from the standard 66° ESP32-CAM lens to this 120° wide-angle module to eliminate blind spots in your DIY security systems.
Form-Factor Upgrade: Utilise the 75mm extension cable to hide your microcontroller deep inside a chassis while exposing only the tiny lens to the outside world.
Package Includes:
1 x OV2640 2MP 120° Wide Angle Camera Module (with integrated 75mm 24-pin FPC)

What resolution does this camera support? It supports up to 2 Megapixels, providing a maximum UXGA resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels.
Is this compatible with the ESP32-CAM? Yes, it uses the standard 24-pin FPC connector designed perfectly for the ESP32-CAM development board.
What does "120 Degree" mean? It refers to the Field of View (FOV). A 120° lens is a "wide-angle" lens, capturing a much broader area than the standard 66° lens.
How long is the flexible cable? The FPC cable is 75mm long, as indicated by the "OV2640-75MM" text printed directly on it.
How many pins are on the connector? The connector features a standard 24-pin interface.
Does it come with a lens cover? Yes, it includes a black plastic cap to protect the glass lens during shipping and installation.
Can I adjust the focus? Typically, the lens barrel is threaded; the focus can sometimes be manually adjusted by breaking the small glue seal and rotating the lens.
Does this camera have night vision (IR)? No, this is a standard daylight RGB sensor. It does not have the IR-cut filter removed, nor does it have IR LEDs.
Can it record video? Yes, it can output video streams. Frame rates vary depending on the host controller, but 15fps at UXGA or higher at VGA is common.
Does it have a built-in microphone? No, this module only captures image data. Audio would require a separate microphone module on your microcontroller.
What is the operating voltage? It operates on standard 3.3V logic, supplied by the host development board.
Are the ribbon cables fragile? Yes, FPC cables are delicate. Avoid sharp creases or repeated bending to prevent breaking the internal traces.
Can I use this with a Raspberry Pi? Not directly. Raspberry Pi uses a specific CSI interface. This module requires an SCCB/DVP interface typically found on MCUs like the ESP32.
What formats can it output? It supports onboard JPEG compression, which is why it works so well with low-RAM microcontrollers, as well as raw YUV and RGB formats.
What is the pitch of the 24-pin connector? It uses a standard 0.5mm pitch.
Why use a 75mm cable instead of the standard short one? The 75mm length allows you to mount the camera lens in a different location or angle than the main circuit board, offering much better design flexibility.
Does the 120° lens cause a "fisheye" effect? Yes, wide-angle lenses naturally produce some barrel distortion (fisheye effect) at the edges of the image.
Which way do the contacts face when plugging it in? Usually, the exposed metal contacts at the end of the cable face down towards the PCB, but always check your specific board's connector.
Can I extend the cable further? While FPC extenders exist, extending the cable too far can introduce electrical noise and degrade the image quality. 75mm is a very safe, stable length.
Is this suitable for beginner IoT projects? Absolutely; when paired with an ESP32-CAM, it is one of the best setups for learning about web servers and remote image streaming.
