Need to measure extreme temperatures with precision? Standard sensors like the DHT11 or LM35 melt or fail when things get serious. If you are monitoring a liquid nitrogen tank at -190°C or an industrial oven at 400°C, you need a sensor built for the extremes. The PT100 RTD Temperature Sensor Probe is the industry standard for high-accuracy temperature monitoring. Unlike thermocouples that can drift or require complex compensation, this Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) relies on the predictable resistance change of platinum, offering superior stability and linearity for your critical control loops.
Why choose this Probe over a generic Thermocouple? While K-Type thermocouples are cheaper, they often suffer from noise and lower accuracy at specific ranges. This PT100 probe is a Probots™ ProSpec Grade component, selected for its Class B tolerance or better, ensuring you get consistent readings down to decimal points. We ensure the 2-meter cable is shielded to reject electromagnetic interference (EMI) from heaters or motors, a common issue in industrial environments. Whether you are building a PID coffee roaster or a cryogenics lab monitor, this probe delivers the data you can trust.

How to identify the connections:
Regardless of colour, the internal schematic of the 3-wire RTD remains the same.
Identify the Common Legs: Use a multimeter to measure continuity. The two wires with near-zero resistance (shorted) are the common legs (usually connected to the same side of the sensing element).
Identify the Sensing Leg: The third wire, when measured against either of the common legs, will read the nominal resistance (e.g., approx. 100Ω for PT100 at room temperature).

Project Evolution
The Bottleneck: Using a thermistor or LM35 limits you to a narrow range (-55°C to 125°C). You cannot measure boiling oil or exhaust gases.
The Upgrade: This PT100 unlocks the Industrial Spectrum. It enables your microcontroller to monitor processes that would destroy standard silicon sensors.
Effort Level: Intermediate. You cannot plug this directly into an Arduino analogue pin. You need a dedicated amplifier module like the MAX31865.
Virtual Technician & Wiring Guide
⚠️ Amplifier Required: This is a resistance-based sensor. You MUST use an RTD amplifier module (e.g., MAX31865) to convert the resistance to a digital signal for your Arduino/ESP32.
3-Wire Connection: Connect the two wires of the same colour to the "Force" and "RTD" terminals on one side of your amplifier, and the single wire to the other. This configuration cancels out the resistance of the 2 m-long wire for higher accuracy.
Shielding: Connect the external metal braid of the cable to Earth Ground to prevent electrical noise from scrambling your readings.
