ACEBOTT QD004 Tank Track Pack Smart Car Expansion DIY Kit For QD001 ₹2,799.00 The ERM Haptic Principle This motor utilizes an ERM (Eccentric Rotating Mass) to generate its movement. Attached to the tiny spinning shaft is an asymmetrical metal weight. When the motor spins at thousands of RPMs, the unbalanced mass causes the entire motor casing to displace and wobble rapidly. This high-frequency wobble translates into the buzzing sensation we recognize as haptic feedback.
"Hollow Cup" / Coreless Efficiency Unlike traditional DC motors that use a heavy iron core to wrap the copper coils around, this is a "Hollow Cup" (also known as Coreless) motor. The copper wire is woven into a self-supporting basket shape that spins around the magnets. Because the rotating mass of the motor itself is incredibly light, it features near-instantaneous acceleration and deceleration. This means when you trigger the motor for a haptic "click," it responds immediately without a sluggish spin-up time.
Microscopic Form Factor Space is at a premium in modern electronics. The main cylindrical body of this motor measures just 8mm long and 4mm in diameter. Even when accounting for the offset vibration head, the entire assembly is only 11.5mm long. It comes pre-soldered with ultra-thin, flexible 20mm red and blue power leads that are sealed at the base with resin to prevent the delicate internal connections from breaking during installation.
Motor Type: Hollow Cup (Coreless) DC ERM Motor
Operating Voltage: 1.5V to 3.0V DC
Body Diameter: 4mm
Body Length: 8mm
Total Length (inc. weight): 11.5mm
Vibration Head Shape: Semi-circle eccentric counterweight
Wire Length: Approx. 20mm
Wire Colors: Red (Positive), Blue (Negative)
Rear Seal: White resin potted end-cap
Haptic Feedback Devices: Embedding the motor into custom VR gloves, DIY game controllers, or wearable notification bracelets to provide tactile "buzzes."
Bristlebots: Creating miniature, chaotic robot bugs by taping this motor and a coin cell battery to the back of a toothbrush head.
Miniature RC Models: Using the micro motors (if the weight is removed) to drive micro propellers in 1/87 scale indoor RC planes.
Unlock New Capabilities (Project Evolution)
The Wearable Posture Corrector: Slouching at your desk? Evolve your health with wearable tech! Take an Arduino Nano, an MPU6050 accelerometer, and this tiny 4x8mm vibration motor. Tape the sensor to your upper back. Code the Arduino so that if the accelerometer detects you leaning forward past a certain angle for more than 10 seconds, it triggers a transistor to pulse this vibration motor. It serves as an immediate, silent, tactile reminder to sit up straight!
Package Includes:

What does "4x8mm" mean? It refers to the physical dimensions of the motor's cylindrical casing: 4mm in diameter and 8mm in length.
What is the total length including the spinning weight? From the back of the casing to the tip of the vibration head, it is exactly 11.5mm long.
What is a "Hollow Cup" motor? It is the translated term for a "Coreless" motor. The copper coils form a self-supporting hollow cylinder without a heavy iron core, allowing for incredibly fast start/stop times.
What is the operating voltage? The motor is rated to operate safely between 1.5V and 3.0V DC.
Can I run this on a 3V CR2032 coin cell battery? Yes, a 3V coin cell battery is the perfect lightweight power source for this motor, making it ideal for micro-robotics.
Can I run this from a 5V USB power bank? Running it continuously at 5V will likely cause the delicate internal coils to overheat and burn out. You should use a resistor or a voltage step-down module if using 5V.
What do the red and blue wires do? Red is typically intended for Positive (+) and Blue for Negative (-) DC power.
What happens if I wire it backward? Because it is a simple DC motor, reversing the polarity just makes the eccentric weight spin in the opposite direction. It will vibrate exactly the same.
How long are the attached wires? The pre-soldered power leads are approximately 20mm (2cm) long.
Can I connect this directly to an Arduino output pin? No. Even though it is tiny, a motor draws more current (Amps) than a microcontroller's logic pin can safely provide. You must use a small NPN transistor (like a 2N2222) or a tiny motor driver to control it.
How does it create vibration? It uses an Eccentric Rotating Mass (ERM). The metal semi-circle at the front is unbalanced. When spun rapidly, this unbalance violently shakes the motor casing.
Can I remove the weight to use it as a normal motor? Technically yes, using fine jewelers pliers to pull the counterweight off the micro shaft, but it is extremely difficult to do without bending the shaft and ruining the motor.
Is the motor waterproof? No. The front shaft bearing and the spinning mass are completely exposed. Water will ruin it instantly.
How do I mount this tiny motor? The easiest way to mount it in DIY projects is using a drop of hot glue, cyanoacrylate (superglue), or a small strip of strong double-sided foam tape.
Why is there white putty on the back? The white resin seals the end-cap, locking the delicate 20mm wire leads in place so they don't break off the internal brushes during handling.
Can I control the intensity of the vibration? Yes, by using a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal through a transistor, you can vary the voltage to make the motor vibrate softly or aggressively.
Is this the same type of motor used in cell phones? Yes, ERM pager/vibration motors like this (and their "coin" shaped counterparts) are exactly what provide the buzz in smartphones and gaming controllers.
Does this motor make a lot of noise? While the motor itself is quiet, the rapid vibration will cause whatever material it is mounted to (like a plastic case or table) to resonate and create a buzzing sound.
How much current does it draw? While it varies by exact batch, these micro motors typically draw between 40mA to 80mA when running at 3V.
Can I solder longer wires to it? It is not recommended to try and unsolder the wires at the motor base due to the resin seal. Instead, strip the tips of the existing 20mm wires and splice your longer extensions onto them.
