This kit serves as the perfect training ground. It includes an array of tiny SMD resistors, LEDs, and a control IC that must be carefully soldered onto the custom black FR4 circuit board. Using precision tweezers and flux, you will learn the exact techniques required to build modern, miniaturized electronics.
Dynamic POV Lighting Effects This isn't just a static flashlight. Once assembled, the spinner features a tactile push-button in the center. Pressing this button cycles the pre-programmed microcontroller through various flashing sequences and color patterns. When you spin the gyroscope, the rapidly flashing LEDs create a mesmerizing "Persistence of Vision" (POV) effect, drawing solid rings and geometric shapes of light in mid-air.
Premium Acrylic Enclosure Many DIY kits leave you with a bare, fragile circuit board. This kit goes a step further by including a precision-cut clear acrylic enclosure. The top and bottom halves sandwich the PCB, held together by four tiny screws, while custom acrylic caps press into the central high-speed ball bearing. This not only protects your delicate solder joints from sweaty fingers but also perfectly diffuses the LED light and provides a smooth, comfortable grip for marathon spinning sessions
Kit Type: SMD Soldering Practice Kit
PCB Shape: 3-Leaf Tri-lobe
Power Supply: 3x CR1620 Coin Cell Batteries (Not Included)
Lighting: Addressable SMD RGB LEDs
Control Method: Single Push-Button (Cycles lighting modes)
Bearing: High-Speed Steel Ball Bearing
Enclosure: Clear Acrylic Shell with Finger Caps
STEM Classrooms: An engaging weekend project for tech clubs or high school engineering classes to teach real-world PCB assembly.
Desk Toys: Building your own personalized, stress-relieving gadget to keep at your office workstation.
Soldering Workshops: A great benchmark test for makerspaces to certify new members on SMD soldering equipment.
Unlock New Capabilities (Project Evolution)
The Custom Firmware Hack: Once you master the assembly, evolve your skills! The microcontroller on this board acts as the brain. If you are advanced, you can trace the pins, identify the chip, and attempt to flash your own custom code onto it using a programmer. You could write your own specific Morse code flashing patterns or create entirely new POV light trails!

Is this product fully assembled? No. This is a DIY kit. It arrives as a bag of loose parts and a bare circuit board. You must solder it together yourself.
Are the batteries included? No, due to shipping regulations, batteries are not included.
What type of batteries do I need to buy? The board is designed to hold three CR1620 coin cell batteries.
Is this kit suitable for absolute beginners? Because it uses Surface Mount Devices (SMD) which are very small, it is recommended that you have at least a little experience with basic through-hole soldering first.
What tools do I need to build this? You will need a soldering iron with a fine tip, thin rosin-core solder, flux (paste or liquid), and a pair of precision anti-static tweezers to place the tiny components.
Do I need to program the microchip? No, the included IC chip is pre-programmed with the lighting patterns from the factory.
What does the button do? Once built, clicking the button cycles through the different programmed flashing light sequences and turns the unit on and off.
How long will it spin? The included steel ball bearing allows for smooth, low-friction rotation. Depending on the force of your spin, it typically spins for 1 to 2 minutes.
What are the clear plastic pieces for? That is the protective acrylic case. It sandwiches the circuit board to protect your solder joints and includes two circular caps that press into the bearing for your fingers to hold.
Is there a specific orientation for the LEDs? Yes! Diodes (LEDs) have polarity. You must ensure the markings on the LED match the polarity markings on the PCB silkscreen, otherwise, they will not light up.
Do the battery clips need to be soldered? Yes, the three large metal clips must be soldered to the outer lobes of the PCB.
Can I wash this spinner if it gets dirty? No. It contains exposed electronic components. Keep it away from water and wipe it clean with a dry microfiber cloth.
Why are some of my LEDs not lighting up? The most common issues are: 1) The LED was soldered backward (reversed polarity), 2) A "cold" solder joint isn't making electrical contact, or 3) You accidentally bridged two pads together with too much solder.
Is the bearing pre-lubricated? Yes, it is lightly lubricated from the factory. You do not need to add heavy oils, which can actually slow the spin down.
Does the clear case snap together? No, it uses the four included tiny metal screws to clamp the top and bottom acrylic halves securely together around the PCB.
How long will the gyroscope spin on a single push? Because it utilizes a high-quality steel ball bearing, a good flick will typically keep it spinning smoothly for 1 to 2 minutes.
Should I add oil or lubricant to the center bearing? No. The bearing is lightly lubricated for high-speed, low-friction rotation from the factory. Adding heavy household oils like WD-40 or motor oil will actually create drag and significantly slow the spinner down.
Can I wash the spinner if it gets dirty or sticky? No. Even though it has an acrylic case, it is not waterproof. Water will seep into the edges and short-circuit the batteries or ruin the electronics. Wipe it clean with a dry microfiber cloth only.
