Kickstart your robotics journey with this complete 4-Wheel Drive chassis kit. Features a dual-layer transparent acrylic frame, four high-torque TT gear motors, speed encoder discs, and a 4x AA battery box. Perfect for DIY obstacle avoidance and line-tracking bots.
The Ultimate Maker Platform Building a robot from scratch can be frustrating if you don't have the right tools to cut perfectly square frames. This kit does the heavy lifting for you. It features a spacious dual-deck transparent acrylic chassis. The top and bottom plates are separated by sturdy brass standoffs, allowing you to neatly hide your messy wiring and battery pack on the bottom deck, while proudly displaying your Arduino, motor drivers, and sensors on the top deck. The plates measure 255mm long by 148mm wide, offering plenty of real estate.
Quad-Motor 4WD Power Traction and torque are key to a good rover. This kit includes four highly popular, yellow TT-style DC gear motors. By driving all four wheels independently, your robot can utilize "skid steering" (tank steering). If you spin the left motors forward and the right motors backward, the car will spin flawlessly in place on a dime! The 70mm yellow rubber tires provide excellent grip on hardwood floors, tile, and low-pile carpet.
Speed Encoding Ready Want to measure exactly how fast your robot is going, or program it to drive exactly 1 meter forward? The kit includes four black, slotted speed encoder discs. These slide onto the inner white shafts of the TT motors. By purchasing and adding simple optical photo-interrupter sensors later, you can count the slots as they spin, giving your microcontroller precise real-time speed and distance data.
Note: This kit includes unassembled mechanical wheeled frame parts only. It requires assembly by the user. Robot Chassis - Frame and Motors are included only. Electronics, Controller, Motor Driver, Battery and other required products are not included and are to be added by the user separately as per requirement.
Chassis Material: Laser-cut Transparent Acrylic
Dimensions (Chassis Plate): 255mm Length x 148mm Max Width
Motor Type: 4x DC Gear Motors (TT Style)
Motor Operating Voltage: 3V to 6V DC
Wheel Dimensions: 70mm Diameter x 27mm Width (Rubber Tires)
Power Source: 4x AA Battery Holder (Provides ~6V with alkaline batteries)
Steering Method: Skid/Tank Steering (Differential drive)
Obstacle Avoidance Rovers: Mounting an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor on a servo at the front of the top deck to scan for walls and automatically route the car around them.
Line-Following Bots: Attaching downward-facing IR sensors to the bottom chassis plate to build a robot that races along a black electrical tape track.
Bluetooth RC Cars: Wiring an HC-05 Bluetooth module to your Arduino to create a custom smartphone-controlled RC vehicle.
Unlock New Capabilities (Project Evolution)
The FPV Explorer: Because of the heavy-duty 4WD base and the spacious top deck, this chassis can carry a decent amount of weight. Evolve your project! Swap the Arduino for a Raspberry Pi and mount a Pi Camera to the front. You can set up a local web server and stream live POV video to your laptop while driving the rover around your house from the other room!
2 x Transparent Acrylic Chassis Plates (Top & Bottom)
4 x Yellow DC Gear Motors (TT Motors)
4 x Yellow Plastic Wheels with Rubber Tires
4 x Slotted Speed Encoder Discs
1 x 4xAA Battery Holder
1 x Pack of Connecting Wires (Red/Black)
1 x Complete Hardware Kit (Brass standoffs, M3 screws, nuts, acrylic motor brackets)
(Note: This is an unassembled mechanical kit. Microcontrollers, motor drivers, and AA batteries are not included).

Is this kit fully assembled out of the box? No, it is a DIY kit. You will use the included screws, nuts, and standoffs to assemble the frame, mount the motors, and attach the wheels.
Why does my chassis look like brown cardboard instead of clear plastic? The acrylic is covered in a tight layer of protective brown adhesive paper to prevent scratching during shipping. Use your fingernail to peel it off before assembly to reveal the clear plastic!
Do I need a separate motor driver to run this? Yes. Microcontrollers like an Arduino cannot output enough current to drive motors directly. You will need a dual H-bridge motor driver, like an L298N, to power the motors.
How does the car steer if the wheels don't turn left or right? It uses "skid steering," exactly like a tank or a bulldozer. To turn left, you spin the right wheels forward and the left wheels backward.
What voltage do the yellow motors require? The TT motors are designed to run safely on anywhere from 3V to 6V DC.
What does the included battery box hold? The battery box holds 4 standard AA batteries.
If the battery box holds 4x AA batteries, what is the total voltage? Standard alkaline AA batteries are 1.5V each, so the box provides 6.0V total. If you use rechargeable NiMH AAs (1.2V each), it will provide 4.8V total.
Can I use a 2S LiPo battery instead of AAs? Yes, a 2S (7.4V) LiPo is a very popular upgrade for these kits! However, you will need to buy a separate LiPo battery strap or velcro, and ensure your motor driver can handle the slightly higher voltage.
What are the small black discs with the slots in them? Those are speed encoder discs. They mount to the inner shafts of the motors.
How do I use the encoder discs? You must purchase separate "photo-interrupter" sensor modules. The disc spins inside the sensor, and the slots break a light beam, allowing your Arduino to count exactly how fast the wheel is turning.
Do I have to solder the wires to the motors? Yes. The kit includes a bundle of red and black wires. You will need a soldering iron to attach these wires to the delicate copper tabs on the motors.
How do the motors mount to the acrylic? The kit includes small, T-shaped acrylic brackets and long machine screws. The motor sandwiches between the bracket and the main chassis plate.
Are the tires hard plastic or soft rubber? The yellow wheel hubs are hard plastic, but the black tires are made of a grippy, soft rubber.
What are the brass cylinders for? Those are threaded standoffs. They act as pillars to separate and hold the top acrylic deck securely above the bottom deck.
Can I build this with just one deck? Yes! If you prefer a lower-profile robot, you can simply omit the brass standoffs and leave the top deck off entirely.
What are all the random holes in the chassis for? The chassis is pre-cut with a universal mounting pattern. These slots and holes are designed to perfectly fit common parts like standard Arduino Uno boards, L298N drivers, and servo brackets.
Can I use a Raspberry Pi instead of an Arduino? Absolutely. The mechanical platform doesn't care what brain you use. You can easily mount a Raspberry Pi to the top deck using small screws or zip ties.
Is this robot waterproof? No. The acrylic chassis is water-resistant, but the open DC motors, exposed wiring, and any electronics you add will short out if driven through puddles or wet grass.
Can it drive on thick carpet or grass? The 4WD system gives it decent pushing power, but the ground clearance is relatively low. It drives exceptionally well on hard floors and thin carpets, but will struggle in tall grass or very thick, shaggy rugs.
Can I attach a robotic arm to this? Yes, the top deck is very sturdy and can support the weight of a lightweight 4-DOF acrylic servo arm. Just be sure to place your heavy batteries near the back of the rover to counter-balance the arm so it doesn't tip forward!
