Read Article →High-quality double-sided adapter board. Converts SOT223 and SOT89 SMD packages to standard 2.54mm DIP pitch for breadboard use.
Bridge the gap between modern SMD packages and standard prototyping. The SOT89/SOT223 to DIP Adapter is an essential utility for designers working with modern voltage regulators (like the AMS1117) and power transistors. Because these components are often only available in surface-mount packages to save space, this adapter allows you to use them in standard breadboard environments or custom DIY project enclosures without specialized PCBs.
Probots™ ProSpec Grade Precision This adapter is Probots™ ProSpec Grade , featuring a high-quality FR-4 substrate with a thickness of 1.6mm for maximum durability. The Double-Sided Design provides maximum flexibility for your bench:
Side A: Features a dedicated footprint for SOT223 components.
Side B: Features a dedicated footprint for SOT89 components.
Output: Both sides convert the 3-pin surface-mount terminals to a standard 2.54mm (0.1") pitch, making it perfectly compatible with breadboards and standard male headers.
PCB Length: 12.06mm
PCB Width: 7.62mm
PCB Thickness: 1.6mm
Input Pitch 1: Standard SOT223
Input Pitch 2: Standard SOT89
Output Pitch: 2.54mm (0.1 inch)
Output Hole Diameter: 1mm
Material: High-quality FR-4 Glass Fiber
Voltage Regulation: Mount AMS1117 or similar regulators for use in breadboard-powered circuits.
Power Switching: Interface SOT223 MOSFETs or transistors with microcontrollers like Arduino.
Circuit Repair: Use surface-mount components to replace obsolete through-hole parts in existing devices.
Unlock New Capabilities (Project Evolution)
Feature Upgrade: This board turns a fixed surface-mount part into a removable plug-in component, allowing you to easily swap regulators or transistors during the testing phase of your project.
Effort Level: Beginner. Requires basic soldering skills to attach the SMD component and the header pins.
Package Includes:

Can I use both sides of the board at once? No, the through-holes for the DIP pins are shared; you should only mount one component per board.
Does it come with header pins? No, 2.54mm male headers must be purchased separately.
Will this fit a standard breadboard? Yes, it converts the SMD pins to a standard 2.54mm pitch that fits all breadboards.
What is the thickness of the PCB? The board is 1.6mm thick.
What are the overall dimensions? The board measures approximately 12.06mm by 7.62mm.
Which side is for the AMS1117? Most AMS1117 regulators use the SOT223 package.
Is it compatible with SOT89? Yes, the reverse side is specifically designed for SOT89 packages.
Do I need a special iron for this? A standard fine-tip soldering iron is sufficient for these packages.
What is the diameter of the output holes? The holes are 1mm in diameter, suitable for standard headers.
Is the PCB material heat resistant? Yes, the FR-4 material is designed for standard leaded or lead-free soldering temperatures.
How many pins are broken out? It breaks out three pins to the standard DIP spacing.
Are the pins labeled? Yes, the pins are clearly numbered (1, 2, 3) on the silk screen.
What color is the PCB? The standard board is green with white silk screening.
Can I use this for SOT23? No, this board is for the larger SOT223 and SOT89 packages; SOT23 requires a different adapter.
What is the spacing between the pins? The output pins are spaced at exactly 2.54mm.
Is there a mounting hole? No, the board is small and held in place by its header pins.
Can I reuse the board? Yes, if the component is desoldered carefully, the PCB can be reused.
What gauge wire fits the holes? Standard 22AWG solid wire or header pins are ideal.
Does the board have a ground plane? It features optimized traces for power components but not a dedicated large ground plane.
Why are the pads different on each side? SOT223 and SOT89 have different physical dimensions and pin spacings.
