The cleanest way to power your breadboard projects. Plugs directly into MB102 rails with selectable 3.3V/5V outputs via jumpers.
Stop fighting with batteries and loose wires. Every electronics hobbyist knows the struggle: trying to jam 9V battery wires into a breadboard or accidentally frying a 3.3V sensor with 5V. The MB102 Breadboard Power Supply Module solves this chaos instantly. Designed to snap perfectly onto the power rails of a standard 400 or 830-point breadboard, it provides clean, regulated power with a simple flip of a switch.
The Probots Quality Advantage: Not all power modules are built the same. Ours feature high-quality AMS1117 Linear Regulators that provide stable voltage without dangerous spikes. We also inspect the yellow jumper caps to ensure they fit snugly, so your voltage selection doesn't accidentally disconnect mid-project.
Specifications
Input Voltage (DC Jack): 6.5V – 12V DC.
Output Voltage: 3.3V or 5V (Selectable via Jumpers).
Max Output Current: < 700mA (Dependent on input voltage).
Controls: On/Off Latching Switch.
Indicators: Green Power LED.
USB Port: Can be used to power USB devices (Output) OR power the board (Input), depending on the specific board revision.
Compatibility: Standard MB102 Breadboards (830 & 400 tie-points).
Compatibility & Platform Support
Standard Breadboards: Perfect Fit. The bottom pins are spaced exactly to bridge the "trench" of MB102 boards.
Arduino / ESP32: Ideal Companion. Use the 5V rail for your Arduino and the 3.3V rail for your ESP32 or sensors simultaneously!
Key Applications & Projects
Dual-Voltage Labs: Run a 5V LCD and a 3.3V Wi-Fi module on the same breadboard.
Portable Prototyping: Connect a 9V battery snap to the DC jack for a wire-free setup.
Sensor Testing: Quickly verify if a sensor works by providing it with a stable 3.3V.
Virtual Technician: Wiring & Safety ⚠️
Jumpers: There are two sets of yellow jumpers (Top and Bottom rail).
Position 5V: Sets that rail to 5V.
Position 3.3V: Sets that rail to 3.3V.
Position OFF: Disconnects power to that rail.
USB Warning: Do NOT connect a 12V adapter to the DC jack and a laptop to the USB port simultaneously. You risk feeding high voltage back into your laptop.
Heat: The AMS1117 chips are linear regulators. If you input 12V and draw high current, they will get HOT. We recommend using a 9V adapter for the best thermal performance.
Accessories
Included in the Package:
1 x MB102 Breadboard Power Supply Module
Required Accessories (Not Included):
Source: 9V 1A DC Adapter or 9V Battery.
Base: MB102 Breadboard.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does this fit on the "Mini" breadboards? It fits on the 400-point (half-size) and 830-point (full-size) boards. It generally does not fit the tiny 170-point mini boards, as they lack power rails.
Can I have 5V on one side and 3.3V on the other? Yes! The jumpers are independent. You can mix and match.
What is the maximum current it can handle? Approximately 700mA max. However, if you are dropping 12V to 3.3V, the safe current is much lower (~200mA) due to heat.
Can I power this via the USB port? Yes, usually you can use a USB-A to A cable (male to male) to power it, but using the DC Jack is the standard method.
Is the USB port for data? No. It is power only.
Why is the chip getting hot? This is a linear regulator. It burns off excess voltage as heat. Using a lower input voltage (like 7V or 9V) reduces heat compared to 12V.
Does it have short-circuit protection? The AMS1117 has thermal shutdown, but it's not a robust "fuse". Avoid shorting the rails!
Can I use a 12V adapter? Yes, but 12V is the limit. Do not exceed 12V.
Why is my output voltage lower than expected? If you draw too much current, the voltage will sag. Check your load.
Does it charge batteries? No.
Can I use it to power a servo motor? Small servos (SG90) are okay. Large servos (MG995) will draw too much current and shut down the module.
Is the switch for the input or the output? The button turns the entire module ON/OFF.
Why are the pins on the bottom bent? Sometimes they bend in shipping. You can gently straighten them with pliers.
What is the polarity of the DC jack? Centre Positive (+), Outer Negative (-). This is the industry standard (2.1mm).
Can I remove the jumpers? Yes. If you remove the jumper, that rail gets 0V (OFF).
Is it compatible with Raspberry Pi? You can use the 5V output to power a Pi (via GPIO), but it doesn't plug into a Pi.
Does it regulate negative voltage? No, positive voltage only.
Can I solder wires to it? Yes, there are often header pins on top that you can tap into.
What happens if I input 5V to the DC jack? The 5V regulator needs at least ~6.5V to work (dropout voltage). If you input 5V, the output will be ~3.5V (too low).
Is this the "YwRobot" version? This is a generic design based on the YwRobot schematic. Functionally identical.
