Since most PC and PLC ports are "Male," this Female adapter is the essential mate you need to break out the signal pins to loose wires—without ever touching a soldering iron.
Secure & Protected Field Wiring. This kit includes a robust Plastic Housing that snaps over the circuit board, protecting your connections from short circuits and debris. A dedicated Cable Clamp at the rear grips the wire jacket firmly, ensuring that accidental tugs don't pull the wires out of the screw terminals.

Male vs Female: Check your device! If your device has Pins (Male), you need this Female adapter. If your device has Holes (Female), you need the Male adapter.
Pin Numbering: The PCB is labelled 1-9. These correspond exactly to the standard DB9 numbering (e.g., Pin 2 is typically RXD, Pin 3 is TXD for a PC-side connection).
Shielding: The "GND" terminal connects to Pin 5 (Signal Ground). The Metal Shell is mechanically connected to the locking screws.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do I know if I need Male or Female? Look at the port on your device.
If it has Pins sticking out, it is Male -> You need this Female adapter.
If it has Holes, it is Female -> You need the Male adapter.
Is this for RS232 or RS485? It works for both (and RS422/CAN). The adapter is just a physical breakout; it doesn't care what protocol flows through the wires. You just need to wire the correct pins.
Do I need a soldering iron? No. You only need a small screwdriver to secure the wires.
Are the long screws included? Yes, two long threaded thumbscrews are included to lock the adapter securely to your computer or machine.
Can I connect a ground shield? Yes, you can connect the cable shield to the terminal labeled for the metal shell (if present) or clamp it under the cable strain relief.
What is the wire capacity? It handles wires from thin 26AWG up to 16AWG.
Is the pinout straight-through? Yes. Terminal 1 goes to Pin 1, Terminal 2 to Pin 2, and so on. There is no crossover or null-modem wiring built-in; you create that with your wires.
Can I open the case after closing it? Yes, the case is reusable. It usually snaps or screws together and can be opened for maintenance.
Will this fit a VGA cable? No. VGA uses DB15 (3 rows). This is DB9 (2 rows). They are not compatible.
What is the maximum voltage? Designed for signal voltages (5V, 12V, 24V). Not recommended for mains voltage (110V/220V).
Does it come assembled? Usually, it comes as a kit (Board + Case + Screws) so you can wire it easily before putting the case on.
Is it shielded against EMI? The plastic case offers no EMI shielding. For strict industrial environments, you might need a metalized hood version.
Can I use this for CAN Bus sniffing? Yes, many automotive tools use DB9. Wiring Pin 2 (CAN-L) and Pin 7 (CAN-H) is a common setup.
Why is the case hard to close? Make sure your wires are neatly routed and the cable clamp isn't pinching the insulation too high up.
What screwdriver size? Use a 2.0mm or 2.5mm slotted screwdriver.
Is the PCB removable? Yes, it sits loosely inside the case grooves.
Can I use this to power a device? Yes, if your DB9 port provides power (e.g., some POS systems provide 5V on Pin 9), you can tap that power from the terminal block.
How durable are the screw terminals? They are rated for dozens of tightening cycles, perfect for prototyping.
Does it work with Mac/Linux? Yes, it's a passive connector. It works with any OS as long as the hardware port exists.
Is the numbering clear? Yes, the numbers 1-9 are silk-screened clearly on the green terminal block or the PCB.
