⚠️ THE PINOUT TRAP (E-B-C vs C-B-E):
Context: The "2N2222" comes in two common pinout variations depending on the manufacturer (often labelled P2N2222A vs PN2222A).
How to Identify:
Hold the transistor with the flat face looking at you and pins pointing down.
Standard 2N2222/PN2222: Pins are 1=Emitter, 2=Base, 3=Collector (E-B-C).
Variant P2N2222: Pins are 1=Collector, 2=Base, 3=Emitter (C-B-E).
Technician Tip: Always check your specific batch with a multimeter (Diode Mode) or a component tester before soldering. If your circuit works but the transistor gets instantly hot, you likely have Emitter and Collector swapped!
Usage Tips:
Base Resistor: NEVER connect the Base pin directly to a 5V/3.3V source. You must use a resistor (e.g., 1kΩ) to limit the current, or you will burn out the Base-Emitter junction instantly.
Flyback Diode: When driving inductive loads (motors, relays), always place a diode (like 1N4007) across the load to prevent voltage spikes from killing the transistor.
