This light sensor is bigger than a normal LDR. A photocell changes resistance depending on the amount of light it is exposed to. These little sensors make great ambient light triggers (when the light in the room turns on, do something, or vice-versa). This is a large-size LDR with a size of 20mm.

To use, connect one side of the photo cell (either one, it's symmetric) to power (for example 5V) and the other side to your microcontroller's analog input pin. Then connect a 10K pull-down resistor from that analog pin to the ground. The voltage on the pin will be 2.5V or higher when it light out and near ground when it's dark.
