The PCB Mounting Advantage Standard XT60 connectors have "solder cups" designed exclusively for stripping and inserting thick stranded silicone wire. Trying to solder those cups directly to a flat circuit board is messy, structurally weak, and prone to breaking. The XT60PW-F solves this completely. The "PW" designation means it is engineered with right-angle (90-degree) through-hole pins. You simply drop the pins through the holes on your custom PCB and solder them from the bottom. This creates a rock-solid, low-profile power jack that lays perfectly parallel to your board.
High-Current Architecture Powering heavy robotics requires serious copper. The XT60PW-F utilizes large, solid brass pins that are thickly plated in real gold to minimize contact resistance. Furthermore, this connector doesn't just use two pins; it utilizes four mounting points. The two primary large pins carry the massive positive and negative current, while two smaller side-pins provide additional mechanical anchoring to the PCB, ensuring the connector doesn't rip the copper pads off your board when you forcefully unplug a battery. It is comfortably rated for 30A of continuous current and up to 60A of burst current.
Polarized Safety Design Like all XT60 variants, the housing features an asymmetric, D-shaped profile. This mechanical polarization makes it physically impossible to plug a battery in backward, guaranteeing you will never accidentally reverse the polarity and destroy your expensive electronics.

1. What does the "PW" stand for? "PW" typically denotes a "PCB Wire" or "PCB Mount" variant. It specifically refers to the fact that the solder points are 90-degree pins designed to go through holes on a printed circuit board, rather than straight solder cups for wires.
2. What does the "F" stand for? The "F" stands for Female. By universal RC convention, the female connector (with the recessed metal sockets inside the plastic housing) is always mounted on the power source (the battery) or the power input of a board, to prevent the live contacts from shorting out against metal objects.
3. Can I solder standard wires to this connector? While technically possible to bend wires and solder them to the protruding pins, it is highly discouraged. This connector is specifically designed for flat PCB mounting. If you are soldering to wires, you should buy the standard "Inline" XT60 connector.
4. What is the difference between an XT60 and an XT30? The XT60 is a much larger connector designed for higher current (30A+). The XT30 is a miniaturized version designed for smaller micro-drones (rated for around 15A).
5. How many amps can this connector handle safely? The heavy gold-plated pins allow it to safely handle 30 Amps of continuous DC current without melting, and it can comfortably survive transient burst spikes of up to 60 Amps.
6. Will this plug into a standard male XT60 connector? Yes! The front mating face of the XT60PW-F is 100% physically identical and compatible with any standard male XT60 connector on the market.
7. Why are there four metal pins on the back, but it's only a 2-wire connector? The two massive central pins carry the positive and negative electrical current. The two smaller, thinner pins on the outer edges are primarily for mechanical anchoring. You solder them to dummy pads on your PCB to give the connector immense physical strength so it doesn't break off when unplugging a battery.
8. Is this connector waterproof? No, the XT60 series is not IP-rated for underwater use. The internal contacts are exposed to the environment.
9. Can I plug it in backward? No. The housing has a distinct "D-shape" (one square side, one angled side). It is mechanically polarized and physically cannot be plugged in backward.
10. What material is the housing made of? It is injection-molded from a high-temperature nylon polymer. It is highly resistant to melting, unlike cheap ABS or PLA plastics.
11. What temperature should my soldering iron be? Because the large brass pins act as massive heat sinks, you need a powerful soldering iron (at least 60W) set to a high temperature (around 380°C - 400°C) to quickly heat the pin and the PCB pad before the plastic housing melts.
12. Can I use this for AC mains power (110V/220V)? Absolutely not. The XT60 is strictly designed for low-voltage DC applications (typically under 60V). It does not have the insulation required for deadly AC mains power.
13. Does this connector come with a snap-on back cover? No. Because this connector is designed to be soldered flush against a flat circuit board, a rear wire cover is unnecessary.
14. What are the physical dimensions? The housing is approximately 20mm wide, 16mm long (excluding the pins), and 10mm high.
15. Can I use this to connect my brushless motor to my ESC? No. Brushless motors use 3-phase AC power (requiring 3 wires). The XT60 only has 2 pins. You should use an MT30 or MR30 connector for brushless motors.
16. Are the metal pins solid or hollow? The internal mating sockets on the front are hollow to accept male bullet pins, but the 90-degree mounting pins that protrude through your PCB are solid metal.
17. What type of solder should I use? A high-quality 60/40 or 63/37 Rosin Core leaded solder is highly recommended for creating strong, low-resistance joints on these large pins.
18. Do I need to drill specific hole sizes in my PCB? Yes. If you are designing a custom PCB, you must check the specific manufacturer datasheet for the exact hole diameters and pitch spacing required for the two main power pins and the two anchor pins.
19. Can I mount this vertically (straight up) instead of at a 90-degree angle? This specific "PW" model is inherently right-angled. If you want a connector that points straight up from your PCB, you should look for the "XT60-V" (Vertical) PCB mount variant.
20. Will the nylon plastic melt while I am soldering? High-temperature nylon is resistant to melting, but not immune. A pro-tip: Plug a spare male XT60 connector into this female connector before you start soldering. The spare connector acts as a heat sink and physically holds the internal pins perfectly aligned even if the surrounding plastic gets soft.
