Β Light up your FPV drone with the SpeedyBee WS2812 LED Kit. Includes four 4-LED arm strips, 4 plug-and-play connector cables, and a dedicated control module with built-in visual effects and a voltage regulator.
Ultra-Bright Addressable WS2812 LEDs When flying line-of-sight or racing in low-light environments, visibility is everything. This kit includes four highly durable, low-profile LED strips. Each strip is loaded with four WS2812 addressable RGB LEDs. Because they are addressable, each individual LED diode can display a completely different color and brightness level simultaneously, allowing for incredibly fluid chasing, pulsing, and rainbow effects that standard single-color LED strips simply cannot match.
Standalone Multi-Effect Control Module You don't need a complex Flight Controller to use these lights! The kit includes a dedicated Multi-Effect Control Module. This tiny board acts as the brain of the operation. By pressing the tactile button on the top of the module, you can manually cycle through a variety of built-in flashing patterns and solid colors. Even better, the bottom of the module features battery input pads (B+ and B-) feeding into an onboard voltage regulator. This allows you to wire the module directly to your high-voltage LiPo battery, and it will safely step the voltage down to the 5V required by the LEDs.
Plug-and-Play Simplicity Say goodbye to tedious micro-soldering for every single light. Both the control module and the LED strips feature convenient SH1.0 plug-in connectors. Using the four included wiring harnesses, you can simply plug the strips directly into the control module. Furthermore, the LED strips have an input (DIN) and an output (DO) connector on opposite ends, meaning you can seamlessly daisy-chain them together to create one massive, synchronized light string!
Brand: SpeedyBee
LED Protocol: WS2812 (Individually Addressable RGB)
LEDs Per Strip: 4 LEDs
Operating Voltage (LEDs): 5V DC
Control Module Input Voltage: LiPo Battery Voltage (via B+/B- pads)
Connections: SH1.0 3-Pin Connectors (Data, 5V, Ground)
Control Method: Standalone Push-Button OR Flight Controller (Betaflight)
FPV Racing Drones: Mounting a strip to each of your four drone arms to provide team-color identification during night races.
RC Cars & Trucks: Adding underglow or chasing light effects to a 1/10th scale RC crawler using the standalone push-button module.
Fixed-Wing Aircraft: Creating high-visibility navigation lights on the wingtips of an RC airplane to help maintain visual orientation in the sky.
Unlock New Capabilities (Project Evolution)
The Betaflight Telemetry Upgrade: The standalone button is great, but let's evolve your drone! Instead of using the included control module, snip the connectors off one end of the cables and solder the 5V, GND, and DIN (Data In) wires directly to your Flight Controller's LED pads. Open the Betaflight Configurator software, and you can now program these LEDs to react to your drone's telemetry! Set them to flash red when your battery is low, act as turn signals when you roll, or change color based on your throttle position!
4 x SpeedyBee WS2812 LED Strips (4 LEDs per strip)
1 x Multi-Effect Push-Button Control Module
4 x SH1.0 3-Pin Wiring Cables
1 x Section of Clear Heat Shrink Tubing
What does "WS2812" mean? WS2812 is an industry-standard protocol for "addressable" LEDs. It means there is a tiny microchip inside every single LED diode, allowing each one to receive its own unique color and brightness data independently.
What voltage do the LED strips require? The LED strips themselves operate strictly on 5V DC.
What happens if I plug an 11.1V battery directly into the LED strip? You will instantly fry and permanently destroy the LEDs. They must only receive 5V.
How does the control module handle higher voltages? The control module has an integrated step-down regulator (indicated by the large square inductor on top). You solder your main battery to the B+ and B- pads, and the module steps it down to a safe 5V for the strips.
How do I change the colors or effects? Simply press the black tactile button on top of the control module to cycle through the pre-programmed colors, chasing effects, and blinking patterns.
Can I control these with my Flight Controller (like Betaflight)? Yes! You can bypass the standalone control module entirely and wire the LED strips' DIN, 5V, and GND pads directly to your flight controller.
What do "DIN" and "DO" mean on the strips? "DIN" stands for Data In (where the signal enters the strip). "DO" stands for Data Out (where the signal exits to go to the next strip).
Can I connect all four strips together in a line? Yes! This is called "daisy-chaining." You connect the DO of the first strip into the DIN of the second strip, and so on.
Do I have to solder anything to use this kit? To power the control module, you will need to solder wire from your battery/PDB to the B+ and B- pads on the bottom of the module. However, the strips connect to the module via simple plug-and-play cables.
Are these LED strips waterproof? No, the bare boards are not waterproof.
What is the clear plastic sleeve for? That is clear heat shrink tubing. You slide it over the LED strips once they are mounted to your drone arms and use a heat gun to shrink it tight. This protects the LEDs from wet grass, dirt, and propeller strikes while letting the light shine through.
How many LEDs are in this entire kit? There are 4 strips with 4 LEDs each, totaling 16 individually addressable LEDs.
Will these drain my drone's battery quickly? No. While they are very bright, 16 LEDs draw a relatively small amount of current (typically less than 1 Amp total on full white brightness), resulting in a negligible impact on flight times.
How long are the included cables? The included 3-pin SH1.0 cables are standard short-run lengths (usually around 50mm to 100mm), perfect for reaching from the center of a 5-inch drone frame out to the arms.
Can I use this on an RC car? Absolutely! The standalone control module makes this kit perfect for RC cars, drift trucks, and boats where you don't have an advanced drone flight controller.
How do I mount the strips to my drone arms? The best method is applying a strip of double-sided tape (like 3M VHB) to the back of the strip, sticking it to the carbon fiber arm, and then slipping the clear heat shrink over the whole arm to lock it down.
What do the LED, +5V, and GND pads on the bottom of the module do? If you rip off or break one of the white plastic connectors, you can still use the module by direct-soldering your wires to these backup pads on the bottom.
Does the control module remember my last setting when I unplug the battery? Yes, typical standalone modules like this have flash memory that saves your last selected color/effect so you don't have to click the button every time you swap batteries.
Can I cut the LED strips to make them shorter? While technically possible to cut WS2812 strips along the copper pads, these are already pre-cut into very short 4-LED segments with connectors on both ends. Cutting them would require you to micro-solder tiny wires to the remaining bare copper.
Can I add more than 4 strips to the control module? The module can output data to many LEDs in a daisy chain, but the built-in 5V regulator has a maximum amperage limit. Stacking too many extra strips may overheat the module's regulator. Stick to the included 4 strips for guaranteed safety.
