FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

1. What does "NCV" stand for? NCV stands for Non-Contact Voltage. It allows the multimeter to detect the presence of live AC voltage (like in a wall outlet) simply by bringing the top of the meter close to it, without touching bare wires.

2. Is this an auto-ranging or manual-ranging multimeter? The UT33D+ is a manual-ranging multimeter. You must turn the central dial to the specific range you expect to measure (e.g., 20V, 200V).

3. Can this measure AC current (Amps)? No. Like most compact multimeters in this class, it measures DC Current (up to 10A) but does not measure AC current.

4. Can it measure AC voltage? Yes, it can measure AC voltage in the 200V and 600V ranges, perfect for standard household mains power.

5. What is the maximum voltage it can test? The meter is rated for a maximum of 600V for both DC and AC voltage.

6. Does it have a continuity beeper? Yes. Turn the dial to the symbol that looks like Wi-Fi waves / a diode. Touch the two probes together; if the circuit is unbroken, the meter will emit a loud beep.

7. What kind of batteries does it use? It requires two (2) standard AAA 1.5V batteries.

8. Are the batteries included? Generally, batteries are not included due to airmail shipping restrictions on batteries.

9. Does the screen light up in the dark? Yes, press the blue button with the lightbulb icon to activate the bright LCD backlight.

10. What does the orange "HOLD" button do? Pressing the HOLD button freezes the current number on the screen. This is helpful if you are measuring a hard-to-reach area and can't look at the screen until you pull the probes away.

11. What does "APO" mean on the screen? APO stands for Auto Power Off. To save battery life, the multimeter will automatically shut itself down after 15 minutes of inactivity.

12. Is the red case removable? Yes, the red perimeter is a thick, protective rubber holster that can be peeled off to access the battery compartment on the back.

13. Why are there three plug-in ports at the bottom? The black COM port is the common ground. The right red port is for measuring voltage, resistance, and low current (mA). The left red port is specifically for measuring high current up to 10 Amps.

14. How do I test a standard 12V car battery? Plug the black probe into COM and the red probe into the right VΩmA port. Turn the dial to the 20 setting in the V= (DC Voltage) section. Touch red to the positive battery terminal and black to the negative.

15. Does it measure temperature? No. Within the UNI-T UT33+ series, the "C+" model measures temperature. The "D+" model (this one) replaces the temperature feature with the NCV feature instead.

16. What does "CAT II 600V" mean? It is a safety rating. Category II means the device is safe to use on single-phase receptacle-connected loads (like household appliances and standard wall outlets) up to 600 Volts.

17. Can I use this to test if an LED is good? Yes, using the Diode setting (sharing the continuity dial position), you can test the forward voltage drop of LEDs to ensure they work and to identify their polarity.

18. What happens if I accidentally measure 10 Amps while plugged into the mA port? You will blow the internal fuse to protect the circuitry. The meter features a 200mA/250V fuse for the standard port, and a 10A/250V fuse for the high-current port.

19. Can I replace the internal fuses? Yes. By removing the rubber holster and unscrewing the back casing, you can access and replace blown ceramic fuses.

20. What is the highest resistance it can measure? The UT33D+ can measure up to a massive 200 Megohms (200MΩ).

21. Are the test leads replaceable? Yes, the ports use standard 4mm banana jacks. You can easily upgrade or replace the test probes if they get damaged.

22. How do I wake it up from Auto Power Off? Simply press any button or turn the rotary dial to wake the multimeter back up.
