The Promax SD003 entirely eliminates this guesswork. By turning the premium aluminum rotary knob, the module outputs a precise control signal while simultaneously displaying a bright red numerical value (typically scaled 0 to 100). If you find that a cutting operation works best at a setting of "45.5", you can easily and instantly dial back to that exact number every single time.
Standard 1K Integration Despite the digital brain inside, the output of this module acts identically to a traditional 3-pin, 1K Ohm analog potentiometer. The rear green screw terminal block features 5 pins. Pins 1, 2, and 3 represent the two outer legs and the center "wiper" of a standard potentiometer. You simply wire these three pins directly into the external control terminals of your Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) or Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) motor driver.
Independent Display Power To keep the control signal completely clean and isolated from the display logic, the red LED screen requires its own power source. Pins 4 and 5 on the back terminal block accept any DC voltage between 6V and 30V. This wide voltage range means you can easily tap into the existing 12V or 24V logic power supplies already present in your industrial control cabinet, without needing a dedicated step-down converter.

1. What does this module actually do? It physically replaces a standard mechanical 1K Ohm rotary potentiometer. It provides the same control signal to your motor driver, but adds a bright digital display so you can see exactly where your dial is set.
2. Can I use this to power a motor directly? Absolutely not. This is a low-power control signal device. It must be connected to a dedicated motor driver, VFD, or PWM controller. Connecting motor power directly to this module will instantly destroy it.
3. What is the equivalent resistance value? This specific module is calibrated to simulate a 1K Ohm potentiometer.
4. Can I use this to replace a 10K Ohm potentiometer? Generally, no. You should match the resistance value recommended by your motor controller's manual. Using a 1K pot on a circuit designed for 10K can draw excess signal current or drastically alter the control curve.
5. What are the 5 pins on the back for?
Pins 1, 2, and 3: These correspond to the ends and the center wiper of the 1K potentiometer. They connect to your motor controller.
Pins 4 and 5: These are the positive (+) and negative (-) power inputs to turn on the red LED display.
6. What voltage is required to turn on the display? Pins 4 and 5 require a Direct Current (DC) power source between 6V and 30V.
7. Can I power the display with AC voltage? No. Supplying Alternating Current (AC) to Pins 4 and 5 will destroy the internal electronics.
8. Does the digital display show my actual motor RPM? No. It displays a scaled numerical value (usually 0 to 100 percentage) corresponding to the position of the knob. It does not possess a tachometer sensor to measure the physical spinning speed of the motor.
9. What do the small "A" and "B" buttons on the back circuit board do? These tactile buttons are used to enter the module's internal menu to calibrate the display scaling (e.g., changing the maximum displayed number from 100 to a custom value) and adjust the responsiveness of the encoder.
10. How do I mount this into a control panel? It is designed for snap-in panel mounting. You cut a rectangular hole in your metal or plastic enclosure, slide the module in from the front, and the plastic side clips will snap outward to lock it in place.
11. Does the module remember its setting when I turn the power off? Yes, the internal digital logic retains the last set value in its memory when power is removed, so it will start up at the exact same setting when you turn the machine back on.
12. Is the rotary knob continuous, or does it have hard stops? It utilizes an endless rotary encoder. Unlike an analog pot that stops at 0 and 270 degrees, this knob spins continuously in both directions.
13. What kind of wire should I use for the screw terminals? Standard 22AWG to 18AWG stranded copper wire is ideal for securing into the green terminal block.
14. Can I use this to dim LEDs directly? No. Just like with motors, this cannot handle high power. You must connect it to the control pins of a high-power LED dimming module or constant current driver.
15. Can I use this for audio volume control? It is not recommended. Audio equipment requires a logarithmic taper potentiometer to match human hearing. This module provides a strict linear output intended for industrial machinery.
16. Is the display visible in bright workshop lighting? Yes, the 7-segment red LED display is extremely bright and provides excellent contrast, making it easy to read from across the room even in well-lit environments.
17. Why is my VFD showing an error when I connect this? Verify your wiring. Ensure Pins 1, 2, and 3 are correctly matched to the VFD's 10V Reference, Analog Input, and Ground pins. Incorrectly wiring the wiper (Pin 2) to a high voltage can cause controller faults.
18. Does this module output a PWM signal? No. It outputs an analog resistance/voltage signal. It is meant to be plugged into a module that generates PWM.
19. Is the aluminum knob removable? Yes, it is typically secured to the encoder shaft via a small set screw on the side or by a tight friction fit, allowing you to swap it for a different style of knob if desired.
20. Is this module waterproof? No. The front face provides basic dust resistance, but it is not IP-rated against liquids. It should be mounted in a dry environment and protected from cutting fluids and coolants.
