High-performance System-on-Module (SoM) featuring the BCM2711 quad-core processor. This 8GB RAM / 32GB eMMC variant with Dual-Band WiFi is designed for industrial IoT, custom carrier boards, and space-constrained embedded applications.
Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4) which is System on Module (SoM) containing processor, memory, eMMC Flash and supporting power circuitry. This module allows a designer to leverage Raspberry Pi HW and SW stack in their own custom systems and form factors. In addition, module has extra IO interfaces over and above what is available on Raspberry Pi boards, opening up more options for designer. The design of CM4 is loosely based on Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, and for cost-sensitive applications. While previous generations of Compute Module have all shared same DDR2-SODIMM-mechanically-compatible form factor, new CM4 is different. The electrical interface of CM4 is via two 100-pin high density connectors, and the new physical form factor has a smaller footprint overall when the connectors are taken into account. It features a wireless LAN, 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n/ac wireless, Bluetooth 5.0, BLE with onboard and external antenna options for connectivity.
Is Your Custom Project Too Big for a Standard Pi
The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B revolutionized the single-board computer market, but its credit-card-sized footprint and bulky USB towers often prove too cumbersome for sleek, commercial-grade deployments. Enter the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (8GB RAM, 32GB eMMC, WiFi)—a radical redesign that shrinks the immense processing power of the BCM2711 quad-core processor into a form factor smaller than a standard credit card. By removing the physical ports and moving them to high-density connectors, this module allows engineers to design custom carrier boards that fit perfectly inside handheld consoles, industrial DIN-rail enclosures, or ultra-thin digital signage units.
Industrial Reliability: The eMMC Advantage Unlike standard Raspberry Pi boards that rely on MicroSD cards—which are prone to corruption from vibration or sudden power loss—this specific CM4 variant comes equipped with 32GB of onboard eMMC storage. This soldered-down industrial storage offers significantly faster read/write speeds and superior reliability, making it the ideal choice for "deploy-and-forget" applications in harsh environments. Furthermore, with 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM, this module can handle memory-intensive tasks like Docker containerization, heavy database management, and complex computer vision compilation without the bottlenecks found in lower-RAM variants.
Unlocking True Connectivity and PCIe Power One of the most powerful features of the Compute Module 4 is its exposure of the PCIe 2.0 interface. While the standard Pi 4 uses this lane internally for USB 3.0, the CM4 lets you tap directly into it. This means you can integrate high-speed NVMe SSDs, dedicated AI accelerators, or multiple Gigabit Ethernet controllers directly into your custom design. Additionally, this model features Dual-Band 2.4/5.0GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0, complete with an onboard U.FL connector. This allows you to attach an external antenna, ensuring robust wireless connectivity even if your project is housed inside a signal-blocking metal chassis.
