Protect your sensitive microchips and PC components from static electricity with this comfortable anti-static wrist strap. Features an adjustable elastic band, a coiled grounding cord, a versatile 45mm alligator clip, and a built-in 1 Megohm safety resistor.
Crucial ESD Protection When you walk across a carpet or shift in a chair, your body accumulates thousands of volts of static electricity. While you might not feel the shock, this voltage is enough to instantly fry the microscopic logic gates inside modern computer processors, RAM, and Arduino microcontrollers. The Anti-Static Wrist Strap prevents this by providing a continuous path for that static charge to travel safely to the ground instead of into your hardware.
Built-In 1 Megohm Safety Resistor A common concern is what happens if you accidentally touch a live electrical wire while wearing a grounding strap. To protect you, the plastic snap head on this cord contains a built-in 1 Megohm (1M Ohm) resistor. This resistor ensures that static electricity can slowly bleed off your body, but it severely limits the flow of high-current electricity, keeping the current below the perception level of humans (max 250 micro-amps at 250V). This keeps your electronics safe from static, and you safe from accidental electrical shocks.
Comfortable & Versatile Connections The strap itself is made from a soft, adjustable woven elastic band interwoven with conductive threads, ensuring it fits snugly on any wrist size while maintaining good skin contact. The polyurethane coiled cord stretches easily so it will not get tangled in your workspace. At the end of the cord is a 45mm metal alligator clip that easily grabs onto unpainted metal chassis. If your workstation has dedicated grounding ports, you can pull the alligator clip off to reveal a standard banana plug connector!
Type: Anti-Static (ESD) Wrist Strap
Color: Blue
Band Material: Elastic nylon woven with conductive stainless steel fibers
Cord Type: Coiled polyurethane (PU)
Connector Type 1: Metal Alligator Clip (45mm length)
Connector Type 2: Standard Banana Plug (beneath alligator clip)
Internal Safety: Built-in 1 Megohm current-limiting resistor
Strap Closure: Adjustable snap buckle
PC Building & Upgrading: An absolute must-have when handling exposed Motherboards, CPUs, Graphics Cards, and NVMe SSDs.
Micro-Soldering: Wearing the strap while assembling custom PCBs or handling bare surface-mount (SMD) components.
Server Maintenance: Grounding yourself to server racks before swapping out hot-swappable hard drives or RAM modules.
Unlock New Capabilities (Project Evolution)
The Complete ESD-Safe Workstation: A wrist strap is just the beginning! Evolve your workbench. If you are doing serious electronics repair, buy a large Anti-Static (ESD) silicone mat for your desk. By wiring your wrist strap and the desk mat directly to a dedicated earth-grounding plug in your wall outlet, you create a completely static-free zone. This allows you to set sensitive components down on the desk safely without fear of destroying them!
1 x Adjustable Anti-Static Wrist Band (Blue)
1 x Coiled Grounding Cord with Snap Connector
1 x Detachable 45mm Alligator Clip
What is the purpose of this wristband? It prevents the buildup of static electricity on your body from discharging into and destroying sensitive electronic components like microchips and PC parts.
How do I wear it? Put the elastic band around your bare wrist. Ensure the metal plate inside the plastic snap assembly is touching your skin. Snap the coiled cord onto the band.
Where do I attach the alligator clip? You must attach the clip to a known "earth ground." When building a PC, the easiest method is to plug your power supply into the wall (leave the power supply switch OFF) and clip the alligator clip to an unpainted metal screw or grill on the power supply casing.
Why shouldn't I clip it to a painted surface? Paint acts as an electrical insulator. The clip must touch bare, exposed metal to effectively transfer the static charge to ground.
What is the 1 Megohm resistor for? It is a critical safety feature. It allows high-voltage static to dissipate slowly but prevents deadly high-current electricity from flowing through your body if you accidentally touch a live wire.
I tested the cord with a multimeter on "Continuity" (beep) mode, and it didn't beep. Is it broken? No, it is working perfectly! Most multimeters will not beep for continuity if the resistance is over 50 Ohms. Because this cord has a 1,000,000 Ohm (1 Megohm) safety resistor, the continuity beep will not trigger.
How do I properly test it with a multimeter? Set your multimeter to the Resistance (Ohms / Ω) setting, specifically the 2M or 20M range. Place one probe on the wristband snap and the other on the alligator clip. It should read approximately 1.000 MΩ.
Is the alligator clip removable? Yes. You can firmly pull the metal alligator clip off the end of the blue plastic handle. This exposes a standard banana plug, which can be plugged directly into professional ESD grounding ports.
Can I wash the wristband? Yes, you can detach the coiled cord and gently hand wash the fabric band with mild soap and water. Let it air dry completely before using it again.
Does it require batteries? No, it is a completely passive mechanical grounding wire.
What happens if I don't use one while building a PC? You risk a static shock (ESD) jumping from your finger to a component. Even if you don't see or feel a spark, the part can suffer "latent damage," causing mysterious crashes and hardware failures weeks or months later.
Can I just touch the metal PC case occasionally instead of wearing this? Touching the case periodically does discharge your current static, but you immediately start building it up again the moment you move your feet or shift your clothes. The wrist strap provides continuous protection.
Is the cord detachable from the wristband? Yes, the cord attaches to the wristband using a standard metal button snap. This allows you to quickly unsnap and walk away from your desk without taking the band off.
How long is the coiled cord? In its coiled state, it is compact and stays out of your way. When fully stretched, it extends to roughly 1.5 to 1.8 meters, giving you plenty of room to work.
Will this wristband shock me? No. It does not generate electricity; it simply acts as a safe wire to carry static electricity away from your body.
Do I need to wear one on each wrist? No, wearing one on either your left or right wrist is sufficient to ground your entire body.
Can I use this while working on live high-voltage AC circuits? NO. This is meant for protecting components from static, not protecting you from electrocution. Never work on live high-voltage AC mains power with a grounding strap attached to your body.
Is the strap size adjustable? Yes, the woven strap has an adjustable plastic buckle, allowing it to fit very small or very large wrists securely.
Do "wireless" anti-static wristbands work? No. True static dissipation requires a physical wire path to earth ground. Wireless anti-static bands are widely considered to be ineffective gimmicks.
Can I clip the alligator clip to an anti-static bag? No. Anti-static bags are designed to shield components inside them; the outside surface is often not highly conductive and will not act as a proper earth ground. Use bare metal on a grounded chassis.
