Dominate the Dark: Scorpion Hunting & Leak Detection When it comes to spotting scorpions in the desert or finding AC leaks in an engine bay, raw power is king. The 395nm wavelength is incredibly effective at exciting the fluorophores in scorpion exoskeletons and automotive UV dyes, making them glow a bright, neon green. With 5 Watts of power (running at ~1200mA), this LED offers nearly double the "throw" of standard 3W bulbs. You can spot a scorpion from 20-30 feet away, whereas a weaker light would require you to be right on top of it.
Thermal Management: Small Board, Big Power Engineering Warning: Do not underestimate the heat generated by 5 Watts in a small handheld device. The 16mm aluminum board is a thermal transfer interface, not a heatsink. To prevent the LED from burning out, you must mount this board to a solid Brass or Copper flashlight pill using high-quality thermal paste. We recommend avoiding "Turbo" modes for extended periods; use the flashlight in short bursts or ensure the host body has sufficient mass to dissipate the heat.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Is this the same as the ₹649 (365nm) version?
No. This is 395nm. It emits a lot of visible purple light. The ₹649 version is 365nm, which is invisible/stealthy. This one is better for general brightness; the expensive one is better for forensics.
2. Will it fit in a Convoy S2+?
Yes, perfectly. It uses the standard 16mm footprint.
3. Is it brighter than the 3W version?
Yes, significantly. It handles nearly double the current (1200mA vs 700mA), giving you a longer beam distance.
4. Can I cure resin with this?
Yes. It works on most standard UV resins. It is slightly slower than the 385nm version, but for casual use, it is fine.
5. Does it get hot?
Yes. 5W in a small flashlight produces a lot of heat. Do not run it for more than a few minutes at a time unless your flashlight is large (like a C8).
6. Can I use a 12V battery?
No! You need a driver. Connecting 12V directly will explode the LED.
7. Is it good for finding scorpions?
Yes, it is the best. Scorpions glow very brightly under 395nm, and the extra power helps you see them from far away.
8. Do I need special glasses?
We always recommend UV safety glasses. The purple light can be dazzling, and the UV is invisible but strong.
9. Can I use thermal tape?
For 5W, Thermal Paste is much better. Tape acts like an insulator at high power levels.
10. Why is it so cheap ?
395nm chips are the most common UV chips produced globally, so the cost is low compared to the specialized 365nm chips.
11. Is the PCB copper?
No, it is Aluminum.
12. What driver should I use?
We recommend a 1000mA - 1200mA linear driver (like AMC7135 x 3 or x 4).
13. Can I dim it?
Yes, if your driver supports modes (Low/Med/High).
14. Is it waterproof?
No.
15. Can I use it for checking AC leaks?
Yes, the yellow/green dye used in AC systems glows very bright under 395nm.
16. Does it work on banknotes?
It works, but the purple light washes out the details. Use 365nm for banknotes.
17. Can I use it to spot urine stains?
Yes, but again, the purple light reduces the contrast. It works, but 365nm is better.
18. What is the beam angle?
~120 degrees. Your flashlight reflector will focus it.
19. Polarity?
Marked on the board (+ / -).
20. Can I run it on 2x AA batteries?
No. 2x AA is only 3V. You need at least ~3.6V (like a Li-Ion 18650) to light this up fully.
